I love McDonalds - not so much for the food (though I'm a big mac fan) - but for the business model.
Have you ever watched those shows on History Channel about it - how they got started, Ray Kroc, etc.
Genius.

Have you ever watched those shows on History Channel about it - how they got started, Ray Kroc, etc. Genius. Oh yeah. I read the book Fast Food Nation which detailed in great length the beginning of mcdonalds. Ray Kroc didn't come until way later, but I will agree with you that he had some genius ideas,( although I am not sure I agree with all them from a people's standpoint.) Particularly his idea that Mcdonalds is not a fast food business at all-- but a real estate business. "Selling burgers is just the easiest way for the franchisee to pay the rent," or something like that, is a famous quote of his. (Mcdonalds began buying up property and then when someone wanted to franchise it, they had to do it on land mcdonalds already owned, and therefore their lease agreement would actually be with mcdonalds, giving mcdonalds more money-- as they raised the lease 50% higher than it would have been if they didn't buy it-- and more power-- as they were now the landlords of the establishment.)
