What is Trent thinking with this one? I really can't stand this. Is this what I have to look forward from Trent, or just when he works with bad rap artists?

I actually don't think it is terrible, but I will agree that song doesn't seem that cool. I pre-ordered the album already though, for 2 reasons: 1, because I really like the delivery method and am trying to support the "new industry." Saul Wililams is the only other artist besides Radiohead that I know about who is doing this (giving music directly to the fans to download, either for free, or pay $5.) So in a way it is more like I am supporting the method as much as I am supporting the artist.
But also, because I was definitely curious about it since my favorite industrial artist produced it. I will let you know if the other songs are better (actually, I guess on November 1st you can just download it yoruself for free and see for yourself,) but I have some good faith that the album will have some high points.
For the record, Saul does have SOME good music. I loved his performance for victims of hurricane katrina-- I thought it was top notch. But I have heard his albums, and It seems with his previous albums that it he has been a very mixed bag. So if his past is any indication of his future, this song may not represent the whole of the album. If nothing else, the production on this song seems pretty cool, so if he wrote any GOOD songs, they should sound great.
Having said that, I have struggled to feel excited about this record. When Trent said about a week ago that he was about to announce "big news" I was hoping he was going to say "Year Zero Part 2 is ready!" Instead, it was, "I produced the next album for Saul Williams," and, the "big news" didn't seem so big to me anymore.

But Trent has produced artist before that may inspire a "WTF" sort of response. I mean, Marylin Manson? WTF? But I can't blame him for doing it. He made $10 million from "antichrist superstar" alone. He may also be onto somethhing when it comes to the marketability of Saul Williams. If even just 100,000 people pay for the download (1.2 million people downloaded Radiohead the first WEEK) then that is $500,000 profit to split between Saul and Trent. Not a bad little extra income, although nothing compared to Manson unless it grows a lot.

Don't get me wrong--I think Trent is talented and I think he can put out GREAT music and HAS put out great music. This is just one of those projects I wish he wouldn't have involved himself in.
And I DO love this new way of buying music. Pay what you want. I'm trying to find out how to set that up with my music.

Yeah I'm in agreement though-- this song just has nothing going for it. In the end, you could produce the hell out of a crappy song, but it is still going to be a crappy song. Now that Trent is done helping with this shit, I hope he PLEASE finishes the Year Zero trilogy. I love part 1, I still listen to it constantly. But I want the rest of the story, dammit!

Just heard a second leaked track off the Saul album, and I'd have to say I liked this one a lot more. May still not be your cup of tea, hard to say, but as my opinion goes, I would say that "Break" (the song above) would be a 1.5/5 (5 being the best) and I'd say that "Tr(n)gger" would probably be a 3/5. IF you like public enemy, it is very stylistically similar. Because he is giving the album away for free anyway, has no copyright, and is going through no record label, I can show this link without problems of legality. Here is a link for the leaked tracks sharebee.com/e0ae038fUnfortunately you will have to download the first one with it though. So, I don't know if you are curious enough or not.

Yeah I should update by saying, DON'T DOWNLOAD THE LEAKS, because they really are the worst two songs on the album (ironically.) Instead, download the entire album, for free, legally, on www.niggytardust.comBUt also, as a disclaimer, you really have to be a hip hop fan. Much of this is pretty abrasive and uses the n word and certainly isn't for everybody. For those who DO like hip hop, I find that there are a chunk of songs on this album which are really really good.
