Greetings! I'm a 44-year-old liberal feminist lesbian. I'm anti-war, pro-choice and am more than a little opinionated. I look forward to participating here and watching this forum grow. Congrats on your new forum, Kizzume! With you in charge, I'm sure it will do well.

In the past month, we have seen this board take a 66% growth rate in members! If that persists we can expect a whole lot of members in the future!

We'll see. I sure hope so.
I've sort of wondered whether there might be some serious arrogance on my part starting a board named after me, but since I'm still trying to find what my niche would be/is for a message board, it seems best to not have it tied down to any one particular thing in its name.

Right. Just like when I called my old message board "Non Entity," lol. That seemed broad enough that I could always change what the message board was about, lol.

Indeed my friend, indeed. Great to have you here Treehugger PS, I am taking a class on feminism. It is linked to another course which I absolutely hate, BUT, HAVING SAID THAT, the feminism course itself is really badass. It isn't actually called feminism, it is called "Women in the global context" and it covers Feminism along with a host of other factors that go into patriarchy, imperialism, colonization, stereotypes, division of class, etc. Really badass course. I am learning a lot. I am also learning that I too have been guilty in some ways of patriarchy. The study of patriarchy itself is perhaps the most interesting concept of all in this class. It has made me do a lot of thinking. ANyway, yeah, glad to have you on here.

How come this person (tree hugger) doesn't post here? It would make for some interesting conversation. Hey, I may as well ask this here since I've kind of been wondering it anyways. You say you are liberal and pro-choice. I want to know if you're one of those liberals who is against the death penalty. I'm not really a "liberal" so to speak, at least not in the extreme sense, so I question the whole against death penalty/pro-choice mix. I am aware that not all liberals think this way, but I sure would like to know why the ones who do are like that. BTW, glad to meet you.

I hope she comes back soon. It's somewhat hard for her to make her way here as she is currently one of the operators of OnTheLeft. I do truly hope she is able to make her way here again though. I don't always agree with her, and it's sometimes very interesting to learn her perspective.

How come this person (tree hugger) doesn't post here? Hi, there! I run a forum elsewhere on the internets, so I don't have a lot of time to post on other forums. However, I'll definitely stop by from time to time. I try to be interesting. Hopefully I succeed most of the time. ;D I'm definitely against the death penalty. I think it's all sorts of hypocritical to punish people for killing people by killing them. I mean, what's next? Sending a group from the courthouse to go rob the guy who gets convicted for theft? Punch someone convicted of assault? With abortion, at least for me, it's all about bodily autonomy. I don't believe anyone who doesn't want to be pregnant should be forced to remain so. Women own their bodies. If a woman doesn't want to have a fetus lodged in her uterus, she should be forced to remain pregnant against her will. I see it as punishing women for having sex. Check out this article: www.popsci.com/popsci/futurebody/dc8d9371b1d75010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.htmlThis, I believe, is the answer to the abortion debate. I'm all for letting a fetus gestate and develop into a baby. However, not inside the body of a woman who doesn't want to be pregnant. Nice to meet you also.

Well, the artificial womb thing seems much better. I guess I don't understand though, how it's acceptable to kill someone who didn't commit any crime for the sake of convenience, yet not as punishment for someone who commits an atrocity. It seems like a huge double standard. As far as your reason stated, I guess it just seems to me that really it would be "punishment" as you put it, for being irresponsible (aka you actually caused it), and not for "having sex".

You really don't want me to weigh in on the abortion debate.

Haha, thanks Hackfest that does really mean a lot to me. All the same, I'll refrain from adding anything to the abortion discussion taking place here, not for the least of which this is the wrong forum, start one in Deep cleansing and I might join in, but I'm not guaranteeing anything.
Also, all due respect, but Treehugger, it seems from how you word your arguments that you are rather militant in your stance, as if there is no right answer if it doesn't agree with your own. Far be it from me to tell you how to live your life, but I can tell you that an attitude like that is a very slippery slope indeed.
