I think all drugs, including prescription-only drugs, should be legal--then the ones that are "street drugs" now would be taxed like crazy and that tax money would go into non-religious programs to help people quit and for the medical treatment of side effects. I think if people have major issues with side effects of something they were not prescribed, they shouldn't have the right to sue, but they SHOULD be able to get treatment for those issues.

Taxation--if legal the govt would tax it and generate more income. Crime--since drugs account for a bunch of the crime stats then it would help eliminate some of the probs. Prisons--the population in prisons could be lessen, thus no need for massive spending on new prisons. There are a few other that could possibly benefit from the legalization of drugs. Just look at the massive funds that could be used for the better of the population if there was no war on drugs. On the Paul front, he seems to be the only "true" conservative in the running. Most of the others are pretty moderate. I think no matter if we legalize ALL of them or whatever, I think it would be much better than the system we have in place now. |

Unfortunately, like every other tax that was meant to go to something, (Like in our state, the lottery tax was supposed to go to schools  ) even if the drugs were to be legalized and taxed, that money would go to waste. Just like our transit system so far. Light rail, and the monorail. What a disappointment. Drug legalization, like taxes, seems more idealistic than realistic to me. If you look at areas where there are more drugs legal, (like amsterdam) you will find that their rate of drug use is also higher. Go figure. Having said that, I believe some drugs SHOULD be legalized, or at least decriminalized. I think the idea of going to prison for pot is ridiculous. Let us decriminalize that. But Meth should not be legalized. Meth labs destroy entire apartment buildings, kill infants, and meth the drug makes people absolutely crazy. I have known meth heads. I don't want their habit to be legal. I want them as far away from me as possible, aka prison. I have seen its effects on people. I have seen that even once they are off the drug, they are STILL CRAZY. The craziness after prolonged meth use seems to never go away. It sort of sucks that our stores have to get our information when we get cold medicine, but it has actually been pretty effective from what I understand. In my opinion, there are drugs which should be legal. Tobacco, Alocohol, Marijuana-- and you may be able to convince me of some others I can't think of right now. But I have suffered from neighbors who do meth, and I don't want to give them a green light to cook it. I think Meth is what makes me think that NOT all drugs should be legal. But I will agree that rehabilitation should be something we spend lots of money on, for ALL drugs (except marijuana. That's just stupid. I can't believe the government actually requires people to go to rehab for marijuana. Assholes.) If it ever gets put to a vote, you can be sure I will vote for money to go to rehabilitation and job training for drug addicts and convicts. I think that just a tiny chunk of what we spent already in Iraq could have lowered drug use far more than our laws. |

I think if we ARE to have certain drugs illegal, I definitely think meth should be one of them. Heroin may be another one.
