So Romney gave the Morman speech yesterday -
My opinion is that the country is not ready for a morman. Its too weird.
Though the speech was widely praised in the media, I don't think its enough for Romney.

I commented on this already on ontheleft, but, now that its been a day, I think I will further clarify on here.
Romney is very good at giving speeches. He is a good looking, charismatic guy. However, his motives don't all seem pure. In fact, it would seem that he is part of a very similar agenda as Bush. Not good.
He says his religion won't effect his politics, but that is laughable. It already has. He changed his stance on abortion to appease the religious right. If religion didn't effect politics....that would not have happened.
Also, I can't help but notice the kind of pandering he was doing. In the speech he said "There are elements from every religion which I respect and admire." From there he went on to mention catholicism, evangelicals, methodists, pentacostals....anybody notice something here? The first five "religions" he mentioned were sects of the same religion. He named a series of Christian groups, before giving his obliged muslim comment (which seemed very forced), and then giving no comment on Buddhism or Hinduism. It seemed obvious to me that really what he was doing was pandering to the religious right of our country, rather than giving a heartfelt speech about all the admiral religions.
Again. Good speech. Very charismatic. Good looking. ANd that is why I fear we may have another real lunatic as our president-- a lot of people value these qualities over substance.

I'm not a Mitt supporter - because of the pandering. I think thats spot on.
I'm a Rudy guy - with a bit of worry about Huckabee now.

Also unfortunately, I haven't been able to move this thread yet to the new forum.

Mitt is republican pandering king. Seems like an empty suit to me.
This is why I can't get behind him. Plus my assumption that he stands no chance in the general against Hillary.
I really, really hope that the democrats nominate someone other than Hillary - PLEASE.
If by some freak chance, it winds up Obama vs Republican other than Rudy - I could get on the Obama team.

JQ basically re-posted this thread in the new area. I'm really glad to see you here again--I was worried I had offended you, but I really would like to have further posts be done on the new forum.
