Took them 10 years to break the coding. Street Fighter III at 60fps is worth it though. I'm guessing the majority of people on this site aren't die hard fighting fans though.

Yeah, I love my CPS-III emulator, I play SFIII at least twice a week, some people may hate it and think it is inferior to the older games, but I like it just fine. It's a lot of fun.

It is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of Street Fighter. I don't count the Vs. games with their 124 hit "combos".

Well, I'm of the opinion that each Capcom fighter has its place. My current favorite is SFIII, followed closely by SFA3, then SSFII.
On the flip side of things, I do enjoy playing the Vs. games and I am locked in a serious obsession with MvC2 on Dreamcast (I have an original copy, tee hee!) and I'm trying to unlock all the characters.
I turn to the different games with different objectives in mind. SFIII is a more deliberate game, emphasising control over power, it is a game that rewards technique over reflexes and I think it is also a pinnacle of style and artistic design. SSFII and SFA3 are both games that give a bit more credence to reflexes and knowledge of individual fighters' moves and play mechanics. The Vs. games are all about crazy combos and just basically going all out with flashy graphics, overwhelming speed, and insane character matchups. Each one fits a mood and I like to play all in equal parts.
On a related note, I also love almost all of the SNK fighters, particularly the KOF series and the Samurai Shodown series, for similar reasons. The KOF series focuses on fast gameplay and multihit traps and knowing the strengths and weaknesses of individual fighters. The Samurai Shodown series focuses on strategic gameplay and effectively thinking ahead fo your opponent and working to control the play field.
I also play Tekken feverishly (or I once did) and I fiddle with Virtua Fighter. Each game brings a different mix of elements to the genre and the fun is in finding what makes each game click.

Don't get me wrong. I just don't count them as canonized. I love me some Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 on DC. Samurai Shodown is art. Have you played the Last Blade 1 or 2? That game is beautiful. I even got Kizzume's brother to play it over Kaillera for a few hours. That's saying a lot for him. SNK's offerings got kind of buried under the popularity of SF in the 90's. Great stuff though. KOF still gets fired up on my MAME a few times a week, just so I can bust out Vanessa.

Oh man, my Mai Shiranui is deadly. When the games first started coming out in the arcades, I would pick her because she had the...jubbly pause animation, and the provocative victory poses. As time went by and more games were released, I continued to perv on Mai until one day I suddenly realized I could do some serious damage with her. After that I continued to hone my skills with her, getting to the point where I could sweep almost all challengers with just her.
Interestingly enough, I'm getting that way with Ibuki and Makoto in SFIII, although I still center around Ken. I've always been a shoto-fighter and in my experience, Ken has always had the advantages in the Street Fighter games, Especially in SSFII where he was given the Flaming Dragon Punch. That one addition alone gave him a 4-hit combo that had the potential to do massive damage. I think it was right about then that I really got into playing Ken. I also really prefer his multi-hit Hurricane Kick over Ryu's single-hit knockdown one.

Ken has always been my favorite, although I try to mix it up and pick others. But he is the one that makes people not want to play against me anymore. Your Mai story is identical to my Chun Li story. That's funny. What did you think of the SVC Chaos game? I thought it was fun, but broken really. It didn't even come close to other SNK stuff. Anyway, I'd really like to play some SF Third Strike online with you. Not that I have that setup yet. But I think there is a Kaillera client for it.
