I just added two new areas to the Politics section: Education Corporate America Are these too specialized? Should I have just stuck with having posts about those kinds of subjects be in General Politics? Please let me know, and if there are any sections you think would be of benefit to add, please let me know as well. I want this to be a forum for everyone to enjoy.

Corporate America definitely has enough to discuss. Education is fine as well, but I think it will be a slow thread.

*was looking for gay rights*
LOL I'm always the one bringing up gay debates on my primary debate site. They hate me. LOL

I think you both may be onto something. I think I'll do that. I'm going to make a new area--Gay and Lesbian issues, and I'm going to make the conversations about education just be in the general area. Thanks

Glad to be at a site where contribution is tangible and makes it a community.

I personally think you don't need subcategories for everything, but rather, simply threads for them. That is of course, my opinion, but my biggest critique of OTL for example, would be that there are too many sections, some of which never even get touched (The whole area for "liberals only," "viewpoints," and "Redemption." Most of the inside categories haven't been touched since the creation of the board!)
AFter a while, categories seem like they are nothing more than threads themselves, and a lot of interesting threads sort of sift through the cracks and never get seen.

I agree with you--that's why I was concerned about splitting them up too much, which is why I got rid of the Education section. I think having it split up a LITTLE bit is good, it makes it not so overbearing when someone wants to see what's going on in the politics area, but too many and it becomes confusing. There are a lot of forums out there with just WAY too many sections. OTL isn't nearly as bad about having too many of them as some of the others I've been to.

Also, just to clarify,I am not bashing OTL at all. I like it a lot and still frequent it quite often. Just pointing to some of those unused threads as an example-- (I would reference a different message board we both use if there was another I knew we both used.)

I agree with you though about OTL--there are a LOT of unused areas. It doesn't make it bad--I still go there all the time. I should have specified that I know of a lot of forums that are VERY POPULAR that have have broken the board apart into too many sections. I didn't specify "very popular" before....
