There are things that make us want to jump off the deep end and just end it all...
Mine are...
Technocracy (I like my freedom thank you) Socialism (I like to be able to keep a bit of what I earn)
I'm sure there are others, but these are the two at the moment...

People are already doing that, but you wouldn't spin it as that. People are stupid anyway, so it's easy to tell them what they want to hear and manipulate them. Millions of people accepted fascism too when the time was right. But this actually is good.
If given the right conditions, education, people will move toward a more technocratic society. In the future, they might not even have that much of a choice if it gets bad enough, which it probably will. Someone will need to take over and dictate what people do until the crisis is over.
People will still have a say in this society. The type of participation will just be different. The benefits are tremendous incentives.
That's entirely my goal. When the Second Great Depression hits, we are going be there to help out. That and education will help it along. The modern capitalistic society cannot survive as it does. It will need technocratic changes if the human race is to prosper in a post-crash world. They will need order, respect for expertise, and a healthy dose of scientifically organized society.
What caste system? There's no caste system that's part of Technocracy. Technocracy is a lot more complex than that. It's about changing then ature and criteria for elections, introducing science-based curriculums, promoting the scientific method as a value, conditioning respect for the scientific establishment, their views, and allowing proper authorities: those with intelligence and valuable technical credentials, to make decisions. The public an have input into this system but it would require some changes.
Technocacy is about movement toward urbaniates, mass transit, nuclear power. Efficient industry, which means curbing unions, and about sustainability of resource management and the application of automation in industry and society. It's about an economic system based on the energy credit and energy accounting. It's about maximizing efficient resource distribution for public welfare. It's putting engineers and technicans in situation where the have increased power in technical decision-making.
As part of this "Technocracy" there would be a technocratic youth movement, like a CCC to help out during the depression. It just makes me wonder at the possibilities.
It's about creating a collective ethic, and that begins in school with alterations of the curriculum and values instilled as part of education. I believe in social reconstructivism as an educational philosophy. Change often begins in schools.
He was one reason yes. He usurped the movement, as well as other movements, by copying their ideas. The movement was also killed by the media, which portrayed it as Fascism, which it isn't, and the leader: howard scott, was an asshole no one liked. Many of the great scientific minds of the 50's were Technocrats in then, such as M. King Hubbert.
Who said the military isn't important? You're point would be better if someone argued the military was useless. I am hardly turning the students into mindless drones. They are fully capable of thinking for themselves--and allowed to disagree.
What I am teaching them is integral: they ought to accept nuclear power. They ought to understand it. Because in the future: they will be using it. We should encourage urbanization in lieu of exurban living or rural living. It's more efficient--that techncoratic ideal is good. We OUGHT to encoruage students to have a collective social ethic, cooperation. we OUGHT to teach them to value science, to respect those with authority in the proper degree field.
I have an idea for how candidates could be better selected from the pool relative to what we do now. It would be based on a new kind of competition scheme and credentialing, but would still use public voting.
Okay, this an exchange where Tech exemplifies the reasons I HATE Technocracy...

Extreme Left or Right, Socialism disguised as Progressive, Political Correctness (in most cases), Most any comedy made in the last 10 years, Creed, The arrogance of Sony, customer service, uninformed people acting as if they are informed, especially when they stand for a belief that they know nothing of (i.e. F.F.R.F. reps), people who hate Christianity or the Bible and know nothing of either (So many more than you may think), and finally, Holier than thou Christians, yuck!

Oh, I've got one. Everyone wanting to invite the little Army wife left home over for the holidays. Grrr. I am pretty sure I am just as alone today,as I was ten months ago when he left. I will be okay!! Oh well. I guess I get some free grub out of it.
Hackfest, can we remove the comma and make it Sony Customer Service? Those jerks had me send in a camera to their repair shop even though I told them if the repair was going to be more expensive than the 125 that I paid for the camera, I would just buy another one. The rep said he was sure it would be less than 100 bucks. I got the repair authorization and they want 161$ to fix it!!!! I did not even pay that much for the camera, and I paid 12 bucks to ship the damned thing. Stupid Sony. Anyone have any suggestions for a decent digital camera in the 200$ price range that uses Lithium Ion battery?

Customer service in general is horrible nowadays. I can not believe just how rude some places are, as if you are doing them a favor. Look, I know it's minimum wage or whatever at McDonald's. But when I ask for sauce and you throw it in the bag and groan right in front of me, or you say "What?" over the speaker when I pull into the drive through, you don't even deserve the minimum wage that you're complaining about. Man, I'm glad I went on my fast food strike. BTW, I've lost 10 lbs this month from eating better. I don't even exercise, I'm considering adding that next month.

You should look at THIS link to see what I have to say concerning that customer service subject. You are SO right about what it has become like at a lot of places.

What size Lithium Ion battery? Or does that not matter? Does not matter at all. I just prefer them to the triple A rechargeable batteries. You got any good suggestions? I need to buy a new camera before Xmas. ;D

Cool Beans! The Sony I had used a Lithium-Ion NP-BG1. I think it was a 3.6 v. I loved the darned thing. It lasted for days on end with many photos taken, and was really easy to recharge. I will never go back to the evil AAAs.
