Super Metroid. How can I put the greatness of this game in perspective? EGM called this game "The best action adventure game of all time.", and this was said eleven years after it came out. In the over-saturated market that gaming is, that is a stupendous claim. But truer words there couldn't be. Super Metroid is all about free-range exploring. It is extremely non-linear in that you can go anywhere you want at any time, provided you have the right weapons, skills, or power-ups to get there. A pure adventure/exploration game in every way, Super Metroid captures the very essence of exploring a strange, new world. With a musical score that is unchallenged except perhaps by Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy Series), this dark environment and atmosphere is flawlessly characterized. The control is so spot on that you will forget that you are holding a controller. You would have to have played it to understand the genius that is the layout. Missile expansions hidden in the most obscure nooks, you will marvel at how you missed them on the first pass through. This is without a doubt, one of the greatest games ever created. The pinnacle of 2D gaming, even all these years later. If you haven't played this game, stop what you are doing and acquire it immediately. Don't let the video make it seem like a run and gun, because it just is not so. I have given 6 games a 10 out of 10 in my history of playing games. Super Metroid gets a 10/10. P.S. The music in the video is from the OST (Official Sound Track). Video contains MAJOR SPOILERS, so don't watch the last minute and a half if you are going to play this game.
