I think the people I actually feel sorry for are the hosts of the Oscars. They don't really get paid much to do it, and they never really get the thanks they deserve for doing it.
Why aren't the Oscar ceremonies shorter? Why does there always have to be a bunch of poorly-executed performances at them? Why is Ellen the only host that doesn't make people groan whenever a line is given?
To me, the whole ceremony should be a half hour. Tell a few lame jokes, announce. Tell a few more lame jokes, announce. Announce. A joke. Announce. Announce. Ending performance. The end. Credits.

The reason is simple: special interest. There are way too getting their hands involved. Corporations know it is one of the top watched television shows, so they are willing to pay top dollar to get an advertisement in. Money talks. Make the show longer, and get paid for more commercials. Also, movie studios, etc, want their movie to be seen, and if it wins an award they can proudly stick it on their dvd so it makes more sales. Plus, there are a lot of egos when it comes to acting! Everyone wants some recognition, and maybe rightfully so, and therefore it is what it is.
But I will agree that Ellen is good. Her and Chris Rock (who hosted the VMAs before) make for great hosts. If he wasn't so old, I would also enjoy Bill Cosby doing it. Because Bill Cosby is the man! But yeah, I don't EVER watch those crappy award shows. It seems to elitist to me.

That would be great to see Bill Cosby doing that. If they did, I think they should give him a rest once in a while though and have it be co-hosted by another person on occasion.
