I'm not talking about the people who don't know how to install other browsers or don't even know what a "browser" is who "just go on the net". I'm talking about people who WILLINGLY CHOOSE to use Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
I have a friend who re-installs windows on a quarterly basis--and he usually does the awful option of installing XP while keeping files intact, against my recommendations. He's obsessive about having it run an EXACT way. He won't settle for just fixing the problem, it must be "pristine" even though it's an install on top of an install [hands doing strangling motion in the air smiley]. But he has to call me every time he's going to re-install windows so I can go through the steps of making sure he can keep all his Outlook Express contacts and messages. I tell him each and every time that he really would do much better with Thunderbird and he could just do this part himself (transferring all the settings) easily, but he keeps saying, "It's what I'm used to."
The thing is, he's a die-hard Firefox person. That's what doesn't make sense to me.
I've met some people who say they CHOOSE to use Internet Explorer, and I've never gotten a good answer out of them as to why, other than for them to go into a rant about people who are anti-Microsoft and that we need to stop ranking on Microsoft so much because they make such good products. I just don't think that's a valid reason. That's like answering the question with "well, because."
Is there something that you LIKE about having pages load wrong because Microsoft STILL isn't following web standards? Do you LIKE not seeing transparencies correctly? Do you LIKE spyware and malware and adware? Do you LIKE not being able to block ads without something like Norton Internet Security or making the browsing experience slow by making the hosts file too large? Do you LIKE Norton Internet Security--do you think it's a great program even though it slows the machine to a crawl but that's because you "need a new computer, this one's old" when the computer is a 2.8ghz machine with a gig of ram?
Sorry. Quite the rant. I've just added into the topic description that this is more of a rant.
