I haven't logged into Facebook yet, and I'll tell you why:
When they don't offer ANY services--you can't look at any pages, do any searches--NOTHING--without registering, why should I give them the time of day? Why are they getting popular? Do THAT many people sign up to something they can't get any examples of?
Am I missing something? Are there Facebook pages that I can actually SEE without registering?
Why would people sign up to something they can't even see?

Don't bother. It's a complete waste of time. You have to sign in using your real name, first and last, you have to give a lot of personal info about yourself, and you get to search for people's real names. Doesn't that just sound like a blast? Facebook is a polished turd.

Lol, like talking to yourself? Jk, anyway, thought I would let you know that a while ago I was trying to find an old friend. Nothing worked. I tried to google her name, tried to find her on myspace, on aol, white pages, you name it. Couldn't do it. THen I went on to facebook. For the record, I DID NOT use my real name. I hvaent used that shit for like 7 months now so I can't remember what I called myself (Probably JQ Millings, since that isn't my real name.) B ut i worked, I got on, and I FOUND her! Got her new email through it, and life was peachy

You're right--it did kind-of look like I was having a conversation with myself.. Through both you and through other conversations, I finally found out what it's all about. Not a bad service, but it SURE isn't MySpace. The following thread has a good explanation of it: www.ontheleft.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5584&hl=

Well, that's what I did too. It just wasn't my thing. Maybe they'll expand the usage in the future.

I am a big fan of Facebook. I find that it's way more private. I do have a Myspace account, and like it very much, but if I had to pick between the two, Facebook would win for its privacy options. I agree that Facebook is a place for keeping in touch with people who you already know, so, real names are not a big deal. On Myspace, however, my user name is, "This place is inconvenient for my name".)
